MAITREYA WALDORF SCHOOL

“Receive the children in reverence, educate them in love, and send them forth in freedom.”-Rudolf Steiner

Our History

The school was founded by a team comprising Babita Kayastha, Ritman Gurung, Bishnu Sherchan, Pema Gurung, Asha Dura and Sofiya Sherchan.   The school is fortunate in having Sarita Sanghai, Waldorf Kindergarten teacher from Hyderabad, India commit to making twice yearly to the school. She has already trained our teachers, helped to set-up and develop the school.

The team built the school building, together with the seminar hall and the guest house. They started the volunteer program which helps to contribute to the school’s finances by offering affordable accommodation in the guest house.

Worldganic farm was established two years before the school, in April 2012. The farm was started in order to practice the biodynamic methods of agriculture. The main goal of the farm is to produce healthy soil, healthy food and healthy life forms within the soil through biodynamic farming.

Our Philosophy

Anthroposophy, a philosophy founded by Rudolf Steiner who postulated the existence of an objective, intellectually comprehensible spiritual world accessible to direct experience through personal inner development.

Anthroposophical ideas are practically applied in Waldorf Education, Special education, Biodynamic Agriculture, Medicine and Arts.

Waldorf education is a holistic educational approach that develops the child’s thinking as well as its feeling and willing, often referred to as the head, heart and hands approach to learning.

Biodynamics is a holistic understanding of the agricultural process.

Maitreya Pathshala Waldorf Inspired School opened its doors in April 2014 in Pokhara, which is considered to be the queen city of Nepal. The goal of the school was to provide quality education focussed on the needs of the child and through a deeper understanding of those needs.

The school follows the Steiner-Waldorf philosophy which is an alternative approach to the current education system in Nepal. It is the first Steiner-Waldorf school in Pokhara city.  Recognising the spirituality inherent in each human being is the core for the development of education of the children.

The school started with twelve children and two teachers, accommodated in the two kindergarten classes with a capacity of 30 children in each classroom.

The school is in the legal process with the Nepal Department of Education for the establishment of a early grade school. As soon as legal approval is given, the teachers will be suitably trained in preparation for the establishment of the first grade.

Maitreya Pathshala Waldorf inspired kindergarten provides a warm and inspiring environment. At this stage of development, the child lives in the world of imaginative play and imitation. The kindergarten will provide the solid educational foundation upon which the children can build their knowledge and skills throughout the rest of their school years and their lives. The child learn through imitation and develop a sense of reverence that is a reflection of the reverential attitude applied to all tasks and activities by the kindergarten teachers.

The focus on play in childhood provides the child with time to develop creative and social skills.  Each day the teacher greets the children, welcoming them into a warm, magical world.    The kindergarten room in filled with simple, natural materials which invite imaginative discovery. Children’s creativity is stimulated as they transform wool and silk cloths, hand-made dolls, and wooden toys into costumes and settings for play and adventure.

The children’s day is structured in a gentle, dependable rhythm that allows them to experience independent play, songs and verses, and story time.

Organic and biodynamic snacks will provide to the children that will be grown on the farm. Activities and festivals marking the rhythms of the changing seasons, help foster a connection with the natural world.     The children are connected with their surroundings and they take in everything through their senses.

The Kindergarten provides:

Painting

Drawing

Imaginative play

Meaningful work

Songs/Music
